My Place

The workshop MyPlace was conducted with 20 students in cooperation with Schlau-Schule München, a school for young refugees, by the JFF – Institut für Medienpädagogik in February 2019. The objectives of the workshop were to lose language barriers and expand the vocabulary of the refugees. Equipped with tablets, the young refugees visited their favourite places near the school and took photos of things, they did not know the words yet. Back in the school, they create collages to explain the terms. At the end, they showed the results each other.

Words and Music

Songs present a powerful tool for language learning and they are useful in teaching languages because of motivation. Songs and karaoke are fun and using them to teach and learn a foreign language is one of the most effective ways of learning as it is a multi-sensorial experience as sound, image and text are introduced simultaneously. Within this workshop students memorize many words and lexical structures of the language.  Besides class lessons, students can use LYRICS TRAINING App to practice languages by watching music videos of songs, do gap-fill exercise and use the karaoke mode to sing along practicing pronunciation.

Alphamagnets Tutorial

Creating the own magnetic Alphabet board, by at the same time learning how to read Italian alphabet and syllables. With pictures and videos of each production phase and of the way the alphabet board should be used (matching picture and letter, putting letters together forming syllables and words, writing the words corresponding to the pictures), students produce their own tutorial. Tutorials are then available on youtube so that anybody can watch them, or saved on the students phones for personal revision.
